Google Analytics Referral Codes Tutorial

In process of writing a mini tutorial for QR codes, I realized I needed to start with some basic stuff first. So here is some stuff about referral codes for tracking your visitors. You can find this information any time under the Statistics tab at the top. I should have a QR code tutorial written in a few days, which when posted will be found under the Marketing tab.

Using Google Analytics to find out where your visitors are coming from:

In Analytics on the right hand side is a menu. You will click on the "Content" link, in the new submenu that opens click on "Top Content". Down near the bottom will be a little drop down menu that says 'Show Rows', and select one of the larger numbers.

Now if you click CTRL+F it will open up the find box, in that box type the word ref. This will highlight all the referral codes. As you scroll down, you might be kind of puzzled as what all of those mean. Here is a link for deciphering these codes: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0ASS-svXZO4EdZDgzcnYyc182M2c2NmY0amRy&...

Creating Etsy referral codes for Google Analytics:

This is what your shop URL should look like:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/rathina

To add a referral code, all you need to do is type the following URL using your shop name and whatever referral code you might use after the =.

Etsy Referal URL: http://www.etsy.com/shop/shopname?ref=

It should look something like this

http://www.etsy.com/shop/rathina?ref=EEGAref

When I look in my Google Analytics, and see this ref code appear, I will know you visited my shop from reading this tutorial :)
